OUR STAFF

Our employees have extensive experience in pension plan administration, including data reconciliation, the preparation of government filings, and the completion of employee benefit statements.  These employees also perform benefit calculations as well as prepare the necessary benefit application forms and participant notices required by the IRS.


MIKE RUST
President & Co-Owner
Mike Rust is an owner of CRS and has over 25 years of actuarial consulting experience.  Prior to forming CRS, Mike had 15 years of actuarial experience with Hewitt Associates in Lincolnshire, Illinois and Charlotte, North Carolina.  He specializes in multiemployer pension and health and welfare plans and has extensive experience preparing projections of the future funding requirements of these plans.  Mike is an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries.  In 2003, his book “Taking Care of Mom and Dad – The Money, Politics, and Emotions that Come with Supporting Your Parents” was published.  Mike has discussed the topics covered in his book on National Public Radio and other radio stations including locally in Cincinnati and has been quoted in various regional newspapers.  Mike has presented material at numerous International Foundation Annual Conferences.

HANS NIENABER
Vice President & Co-Owner
Hans Nienaber is an owner of CRS and has over 25 years of actuarial consulting experience.  He began his actuarial career with CRS as an actuarial student.  After becoming an Enrolled Actuary, Hans left CRS for six years, rejoining our firm early in 2003.  During his time away, Hans managed the defined benefit department for the Louisville, Kentucky office of Benefit Actuaries, Inc.  Over his career, Hans has worked on many defined benefit and defined contribution plans of various types and sizes.  He has extensive experience valuing and reporting liabilities associated with ASC 715-30, ASC 715-60, as well as other accounting standards.  Hans is an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

ADRIANE STRENK
Co-Owner
Adriane Strenk is an owner of CRS and has over 20 years of benefit consulting experience.  She is a Consultant and provides day-to-day administrative support for our clients.  Adriane received her Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.  She works with Plan Administrators in obtaining and reconciling the participant data needed to value Plan liabilities.  Adriane prepares annual funding notices and PPA notices and reviews Plan documents, amendments, and summaries of material modifications.  Adriane also performs individual benefit calculations and reviews Qualified Domestic Relations Orders.

SALLY CUNI
Founder & Former Owner
Sally Cuni is a founder and former owner of CRS with over 40 years of actuarial consulting experience.  Sally started her actuarial career with the Cowan Actuarial Company where she worked for five years.  After leaving that position, she went to Ohio National Life Insurance Company where she was the Director of Pension Technical Services, providing actuarial and administration services to defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans.  Upon leaving Ohio National, she formed her own actuarial consulting firm in 1983 to provide actuarial services for defined benefit pension plans.  She maintained that consulting firm until she founded our firm, along with Russ Millman and Richard Strenk, in 1988.  Sally is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA.

RANDY SMITH
Consulting Actuary
Randy Smith is a Consulting Actuary at CRS and has over 30 years of actuarial consulting experience.  Prior to joining CRS, Randy spent 14 years in the Cincinnati office of Buck Consultants.  Previous to his time with Buck, Randy worked at Mercer.  While at Buck, Randy served as a consulting actuary and client manager advising numerous clients of all sizes.  His responsibilities included consulting on all aspects of pension plan funding, financial accounting, plan administration, and plan design (including designs using traditional defined benefit plans, hybrid plans and defined contribution plans).  Randy is an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

JESSICA BIRKLE
Consulting Actuary
Jessica Birkle is a Consulting Actuary at CRS.  She began her actuarial career with Mercer Human Resource Consulting in Boston, MA.  After transferring back to her hometown of Cincinnati, Jessica worked for two more years at Mercer then for three years in the Cincinnati office of Watson Wyatt Worldwide.  She has experience with pension plan funding, accounting, administration and plan design.  Jessica is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

BETH BROOKE
Consulting Actuary
Beth Brooke is a Consulting Actuary at CRS and has over 30 years of actuarial consulting experience.  Before joining CRS, Beth spent 17 years in the Cincinnati office of Buck Consultants and 10 years at the Cowan Actuarial Company in Cincinnati working with many defined benefit and defined contribution plan clients.  She has experience with pension plan funding, plan design and administration, nondiscrimination testing and plan terminations.  Beth is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

JASON BIRKLE
Consulting Actuary
Jason Birkle is a Consulting Actuary at CRS.  In 2002, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Miami University.  Jason joined CRS after spending eight years at Towers Watson (formerly Towers Perrin) in both Chicago, IL and Cincinnati, OH.  Jason has experience working with withdrawal liability, pension plan funding, forecasting, accounting for defined benefit and postretirement medical plans, administration and plan design.  Jason is an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries.  Jason has also been published in Benefits Magazine and has been a speaker at conferences hosted by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).

CAROLE GOETZELMANN
Actuarial Analyst
Carole Goetzelmann is an Actuarial Analyst at CRS.  Carole joined us from Buck Consultants in Seattle, Washington.  Prior to working at Buck, Carole worked at Hewitt Associates in Lincolnshire, Illinois.  Carole has over 30 years of experience in defined benefit valuations of all sizes, plus experience in valuing postretirement medical benefits.  In addition to large corporate plans, she has worked on a large California multiemployer plan, a statewide public employee pension plan, and many small private and government organizations.  Carole has received her Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation and her Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) designation through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

SAMTA DESAI
Actuarial Analyst
Samta Desai is an Actuarial Analyst at CRS.  Samta has worked in the actuarial consulting industry for over four years.  She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics from University of Calgary.  Samta began her career as an Actuarial Analyst in Canada then moved to Ohio giving her exposure to pension plans in both Canada and the United States.  Samta has experience with pension plan funding, forecasting, accounting for defined benefit and postretirement medical plans, plan design, benefit calculations and plan administration.  She is currently taking the actuarial exams required to become an Enrolled Actuary and Associate of the Society of Actuaries.

BRIAN RUST

Brian Rust is a Consultant at CRS.  Brian provides administrative support for our clients.  Brian joined CRS from Marlin Financial Services in Los Angeles, California where he was Director of Business Development.  Brian has a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and has received his Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation and his Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) designation through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

KELSEY SMITH
Actuarial Analyst
Kelsey Smith joined CRS as an Actuarial Analyst.  Kelsey graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance.

LISA MACK
Actuarial Analyst
Lisa Mack is an Actuarial Analyst at CRS and has worked in the actuarial consulting industry for over 13 years.  Lisa earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with an Actuarial Science major from The Ohio State University.  She began her career as an Actuarial Assistant for Buck Consultants in Honolulu, HI.  Lisa worked as a Consultant for CRS from 2008 to 2011 and has recently rejoined CRS after 4 years as a Benefit Calculation Specialist for The Angell Pension Group.  She has experience with a variety of defined benefit plan designs including qualified, non-qualified, salaried, and hourly corporate plans as well as government plans.  Lisa has received both a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist and Retirement Plans Associate designations from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.  Lisa is currently taking the actuarial exams taking the actuarial exams needed to become an Enrolled Actuary and Associate of the Society of Actuaries.

GRAHAM BENTER
Actuarial Analyst
Graham Benter is an Actuarial Analyst at Cuni Rust and Strenk.  He graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Actuarial Science and Economics.  Graham is currently taking the actuarial exams needed to become an Enrolled Actuary and Associate of the Society of Actuaries.

KYLE THOMAS
Actuarial Analyst
Kyle Thomas is an Actuarial Analyst at CRS.  He graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Science in Statistics with a concentration in Actuarial Science.  Kyle is currently taking the actuarial exams needed to become an Enrolled Actuary and Associate of the Society of Actuaries.

TRACY KERR

Tracy Kerr is a Consultant at CRS.  Tracy provides administrative support for our clients including data reconciliation, preparation of government filings and employee benefit statements.  She also prepares benefit calculations as well as the necessary benefit application forms and participant notices required by the IRS.

CRISTINE WATKINS
Consultant
Cristine Watkins is a Consultant at CRS.  Cristine provides administrative support for our clients including the preparation of Summary Plan Descriptions.  She also prepares benefit calculations as well as the necessary benefit application forms and participant notices required by the IRS.
